How do I know if I need to go to a psychiatric hospital?

The individual will undergo a brief and confidential assessment designed to help determine whether he/she would benefit from hospitalization or appear in need of another level of mental health or substance abuse treatment. The assessment is reviewed with one of our attending Psychiatrists who will determine if hospitalization is the necessary course of action. If not, the individual will be provided with recommendations for outpatient treatment or services.

Do you accept patients with other medical conditions?

We are able to provide care for some existing medical problems patients have; however, since we are not a medical-surgical hospital, we must make sure that we can safely manage any medical condition a patient has prior to his/her admission. For specific questions about exclusionary conditions, please call the Intake office at 912-354-3911.

What do the patients do all day?

Each patient has an individualized treatment plan designed to address his/her behavioral health needs. Patients participate in group and individual therapy, recreational therapy and family counseling sessions throughout each day during their stay. Although patients have opportunities to enjoy free-time, they are expected to be active participants in their individualized treatment plan.

My privacy is very important. How can I be sure that no one will know I have been in a psychiatric hospital?

We are required to comply with state and federal laws to keep patient information confidential. We cannot tell anyone that you have even spoken to us without written approval from the patient/guardian. If a patient wants us to release information to another party, they must sign a "release of information" form that specifies "what" information they want to be released to a specified person.

How do I pay for this?

We accept most types of insurance. We also accept Medicare, Tricare, and GA Healthy Families Medicaid (Wellcare; Amerigroup; Peachstate) plans. Unfortunately, we cannot accept Peachcare or SSI Medicaid plans due to our status as a "free-standing" psychiatric hospital. Payment arrangements can be made through our Business Office for those without insurance coverage. If you have any questions about your insurance coverage, please call our Intake office at 912-354-3911.

What is your military program like and who is it for?

CBH is proud to offer a 28-day rehabilitation program for active duty military men and women who may be struggling with substance abuse and/or symptoms of depression, grief, combat trauma, increased agitation, mood swings, or interpersonal conflicts. Daily military-specific groups, as well as weekly individual therapy sessions allow service members to process their thoughts and feelings related to experiences with prior deployments, combat trauma, symptoms of PTSD, the struggles of transitioning back into the family and community, and how their substance abuse relates to it all. Service members are educated on addiction, and given the opportunity to examine how their substance abuse has impacted other areas of their lives. They are also assisted with creating a relapse prevention plan, and are encouraged to involve family or a support person in their treatment. An aftercare plan will be set in place, to insure that the service member maintains his/her sobriety and mental health following discharge

What happens after detox and will I be uncomfortable?

Detoxing from any substance can be uncomfortable, and everyone will experience it differently. With around-the-clock nursing care and highly trained physicians, we make every effort to help you detox with minimal pain or discomfort. In some cases, a medicated detox program will be part of treatment in order to help alleviate the pain and discomfort associated with acute or post acute withdrawal symptoms. This treatment plan, as well as what happens after detox, is specific to each individual patient. Some may feel the need to attend rehabilitation here at CBH after detoxing safely, and others will “step-down” to an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or an Outpatient level of care once stabilized. Every individual’s needs are closely assessed by all members of the treatment team, to insure the most beneficial aftercare plan following detox. Individual, Group, and Family therapy are also vital to successfully gain sobriety, and to establish a solid relapse prevention plan with non-chemical coping skills and a positive support network.
