Geriatric Services

Joint focus on stabilizing and education

We treat geriatric patients who have age-related diagnoses with dignity, expertise and compassion. This program jointly focuses on stabilizing these patients and then educating them and their families on how to live with these diseases.

Since these elderly patients often have multiple health concerns, we work closely with their personal physicians to determine their best individual course of treatment.

Stabilization

When a patient has a history of mental health issues or is suffering from a disease such as Alzheimer’s or dementia, we excel at getting these patients stabilized safely and quickly. Our physicians meet with each patient every day to assess and treat their specific medical needs. To aid in stabilizing patients, we strive to better orient them by prompting them to cognitively remember the day, date and where they are. Helping the patient return to a normal daily routine, even for the higher functioning patients, is an important component of this level of care.

Education

Our medical staff is skilled at using games and therapeutic treatments to help patients remember how to dress and care for themselves. We also provide medication remembrance training to help them with this aspect of their care. Patients participate in recreational therapy as well as group therapy. In the case of Alzheimer’s patients, we offer specialized therapy and games to help reduce their frustration with the disease and ease their transition for when they are eventually discharged. We also train family members and caregivers on how to take care of these special geriatric patients and assist in personal care home and nursing home placement.
