The hospital offers a variety of programs designed to treat the needs of each individual. Skilled mental health professionals oversee the treatment planning process from admission to discharge. The programs at Coastal Behavioral Health are:
"Horizons"
This program is created to help those higher functioning patients with psychiatric problems and substance abuse. Our individualized treatment plans allow us to work with each patient on the issues that make it difficult for them to function in their day-to-day lives.
"New Beginnings"
This program is reserved for those patients who need treatment in a more intensive or structured setting. Some may be experiencing an actively psychotic episode or need additional support from our treatment team. As soon as the patient has been medically stabilized, he or she will be transitioned to one of our other programs.
"Transitions"
This unit is for the treatment of the elderly or patients with age-related diagnoses. These patients can have multiple health concerns, therefore we will work closely with their personal physicians as we determine their individual course of treatment.
There are many services provided within these treatment groups. A few important components of our programming include:
- Medically Supervised Detoxification – Many patients come to us under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In the event that a patient is intoxicated or under the influence of mood-altering drugs, our physicians are equipped to perform a medically supervised detox program upon admission. We also employ a certified addictions counselor for the purpose of providing support and education on the recovery from substance abuse.
- Young Adult program – This is a specialized level of treatment that is in place for those adults age 18 – 24.These patients are often struggling with major life transitions in addition to coping with emotional or psychiatric issues. Our goal is to provide these patients with skills and tools that will strengthen their abilities to make important decisions and navigate the process from adolescence to adulthood.
- Aftercare planning – In addition to providing individual therapy sessions with each patient, our masters level therapists are responsible for making sure all patients have a continuing care plan upon discharge. Follow up appointments are made with counselors or physicians in their hometowns, so that each individual can continue their recovery once they leave us.
- Substance Abuse Education – This educational component of our programming is staffed with addictions specialists who are experienced in the treatment of those patients suffereing with substance abuse issues. We provide education about addictive diseases and facilitate discussions groups for those patients learning to live without mood-altering substances. We focus on relapse prevention and concentrate on getting the patient connnected with resources in the community that can help them strengthen their own recovery.
