Child & Adolescent Services

We can help your child through the toughest times.

We understand that if you are reading this website, it's because everything you have tried for your son or daughter has either not worked, or has worked only temporarily. We also know this is an extremely hard decision for you.

Maybe you are faced with such troubling questions such as, “Will he outgrow this pattern of behavior?” “When will she ever ‘get over’ this depression or moodiness?” “Is he facing something much more troubling or complicated than I realize?” We are experts in helping to answer these questions, both comprehensively and compassionately.

Maybe your son or daughter has already experienced treatment elsewhere, but he or she just does not seem to be getting better. Some children have chronic behavioral health needs that may be a result of a mental illness, developmental delays, childhood trauma or a combination of these issues. That's why some children may benefit from treatment in a more intensive and structured environment, and for a lengthier period of time.

Here at Coastal Harbor Treatment Center, we offer Residential Treatment. We serve children and adolescents from more than 15 different states as well as Bermuda and the Bahamas. We can address numerous issues under one roof, including aggression, self harming, running away, suicidal thoughts, severe mood swings, trauma, grief/loss, anger management, family relationship issues, and substance abuse. We also have specialized programs for patients who have developmental delays or sexual aggression toward others.

Education is essential for young people and that is why Coastal Harbor Treatment Center operates a year-round school right on campus for our residents. We are a Title 1 – GA Certified school and provide regular and special education programs so students can continue their education while in treatment. Since many of our residents have had long-term struggles in school settings due to behavior problems, learning disabilities, or a combination of both, we believe it is essential to provide them with every opportunity for academic success. There is even a program to prepare residents to earn their GED while at Coastal Harbor Treatment Center.

In addition, residents have access to our swimming pool, basketball court, tennis court and gymnasium. We have a level system through which residents can earn privileges and recreational or personal items by exhibiting positive and safe behaviors. Residents who are able demonstrate safe behaviors toward themselves and others will be eligible for community outings and home passes as appropriate.

We encourage your family involvement at every step of the way from family therapy sessions to spending weekends and holidays together. Our therapists will work with you on understanding your child's behaviors, support you while your child is in treatment, and teach you ways to effectively address issues once your child is discharged. We will also work with you to set up aftercare plans and supportive services to help your child maintain the positive changes they have made in our program.
